Six Northern Michigan Congregations To Join Sacred Grounds

Au Sable Institute announced today that six houses of worship in northern Michigan have been selected to participate in the Spring 2022 cohort of the Sacred Grounds program. The program enables faith communities to create wildlife habitat and actively link faith practices and caring for the environment. Sacred Grounds in northern Michigan is a partnership between Au Sable Institute and the National Wildlife Federation.

Each participating house of worship will receive up to $4000 worth of native plants from Au Sable’s native plant nursery to be used for the establishment of a native plant garden at their house of worship or to help address an environmental need within the church’s home community.

The six congregations selected to participate in the 2022 Sacred Grounds cohort are:

- Sojourn Church, Traverse City

- Watershed Church, Traverse City

- The Presbyterian Church, Traverse City

- Faith Reformed Church, Traverse City

- Grayling Free Methodist, Grayling

- Church in the Hills, Bellaire

Funding for Sacred Grounds in northern Michigan is made possible through a Planet Award of the Consumers Energy Foundation. The six projects completed through this program are part of the Good Things Grow Here initiative, Au Sable’s commitment to completing 50 community led habitat restoration projects in 5 years.
