A family foundation has provided a $12,000 grant to the Au Sable Institute to increase the engagement of Au Sable students with their local churches. The grant will support five $2,000 Creation Care Outreach Fellowships given to students of exemplary academic record and Christian maturity. Each of the five Fellows will commit to making a presentation on the biblical basis of creation care in their home churches after their studies at the Au Sable Institute in summer 2019.
“Working within their own circle of influence, we believe that the kinds of students who will receive the Fellowship will bring heightened credibility to the real biblical and practical issues of creation care, and help other Christians in their own congregations see the credibility of these concerns.”
In addition to increasing the engagement of Christian churches in thinking about creation care as an expression of Christian life and discipleship, the Creation Care Outreach Fellowship will provide strong incentive for students to study at Au Sable, especially those who want to see their own churches more involved in and aware of the concerns related to environmental stewardship.
Dr. Fred Van Dyke, Au Sable’s Executive Director, appreciates the significance and strategic value of the Creation Care Outreach Fellowship in advancing Au Sable’s mission with both Christian colleges and Christian churches. “Recipients of the Creation Care Outreach Fellowship,” stated Van Dyke, “will be selected in part on the basis of not only their demonstrated academic ability, but also on their demonstrated and effective participation in a local congregation. Working within their own circle of influence, we believe that the kinds of students who will receive the Fellowship will bring heightened credibility to the real biblical and practical issues of creation care, and help other Christians in their own congregations see the credibility of these concerns.”
