Students will also receive training and experience in proper pesticide application in sensitive ecosystems in preparation for completing a State of Michigan Pesticide applicator license.

Meet the Instructor

Deanna Geelhoed is a Michigan botanist who has extensive work in watershed restoration. She coordinated the Plaster Creek Stewards Initiative of Calvin University, which works to restore the health and beauty of the most polluted watershed in west michigan. Within this work she has designed and implemented hundreds of native plant projects ranging from small-scale residential rain gardens to large floodplain  restorations.  Managing invasive species and propagating native plants was a key part of the job. Additionally she has conducted and supervised various research projects focusing on urban native plant and tree survival, prairie restoration techniques, and wetland creation.

Deanna received a bachelors of Biology from Calvin University in 2016 and currently is getting her Masters of Science at University of Michigan focusing on Environmental Justice, Plant Design, and Indigenous Rights.
