Our Great Lakes campus is located in Northern Michigan, on beautiful Big Twin Lake. Campus includes miles of hiking on 120 acres of property, 300 feet of waterfront for canoeing, kayaking and swimming, recreation fields, and lots of shady places to hang up a hammock to study and relax. Students at our Great Lakes campus live in dormitories, eat in our dining hall, and spend time in our classrooms, lounges, library and all our outdoor spaces!
Student Housing
While on campus at our Great Lakes campus, students stay in shared housing. Students can expect a twin bed, a shared dresser for clothing, and in some housing units, a small space for hanging items. All housing has shared bathrooms and showers. Students bring their own bedding, pillow, and towels. Student also have access to laundry on site.
Dining Hall
All students have access to the Au Sable food service for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Au Sable works diligently to serve food that is consistent with our mission. We are able to accomodate many dietary restrictions. Our students often find themselves lingering in conversation after meals in our cozy dining space, making tea after hours while they study, and forming amazing community around the tables with faculty and staff.
Classrooms
While classes spend a majority of their time outside in the field, Au Sable does have classrooms and a lab where faculty can gather and meet. Some faculty prefer to even lecture outside!
Library
In Earth Hall, Au Sable has a library where students can access resources, study, or talk to Au Sable staff. This is also where each student has a mailbox, can purchase a few select items from our bookstore, or even purchase Au Sable t-shirts and mugs.
AU Sable Lodge
The lodge at Au Sable is a great place to hang out with friends, play games, study, participate in community events, and enjoy the views of Louie’s Pond. Students often study by the fire on cool spring nights or enjoy the warm (or rainy!) summer days on the deck.
Study Hall and Student Lounge
Students have access to an additional study hall or student lounge where they can study, catch up on homework, or do some crafting, puzzling, or other quiet activities.
Recreation Hall and Recreation Fields
At our Great Lakes campus, students often find themselves playing tennis, volleyball, soccer, or pickleball in their spare time! In the winter, cross country skis and snowshoes are available.
Trails and Lake
Au Sable’s Great Lakes campus is located in the northern woods of Michigan. We have three miles of trails, including access to the North Country National Scenic Trail, and 300 feet of lakefront access on Big Twin Lake. Down at the beach, students have bonfires, kayak, canoe, swim and reflect. Students also have access to Louie’s Pond where they can sit on the dock and chat with friends. Students also can opt to run or bike around the lake, for those with the energy to spare!
