New Film by Susan Emmerich: When Heaven Meets Earth

Apr 11, 2011

Dr. Susan Emmerich, a long-time friend of Au Sable and noted for her work on faith-based natural resource conflict management, has created a new film When Heaven Meets Earth, a follow-up to her acclaimed 2001 film, Between Heaven and Earth, and 1999 trailer, Tangier Island: Faith-Based Stewardship, which was made with support by Au Sable. When Heaven Meets Earth continues the transformational story of how Susan and others applied faith-based stewardship principles to mediate conflicts between the Tangier Waterman and environmental groups, and ultimately lead the Tangier community to abandon destructive practices in the Chesapeake Bay and adopt faith-based natural resource management practices. The new film chronicles the Waterman’s outreach efforts to farmers in Pennsylvania and Maryland in the upper reaches of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and shows their process of learning together about the biblical truths of creation care and how that impacts their fishing and farming practices. When Heaven Meets Earth is now in a DVD set which includes an 11 min. trailer and the 25 min. Between Heaven and Earth film.

The film’s website has nearly all the research and published material as well as discussion guides and lesson plans for professors developed by five different Christian college professors (Fred VanDyke, Mike Mooring, and Evvy Campbell). In addition, Susan will be leading a one day seminar (May 14) on the methods and approaches used to implement the faith-based stewardship model in natural resource dependent communities.

The new DVD is available for purchase, and also includes Between Heaven and Earth and the trailer for When Heaven Meets Earth. You can also watch the new When Heaven Meets Earth 11-minute trailer here:
