Au Sable hosts special events for the Grand Traverse Bay community to learn more about the unique ecology of northern Michigan and how we can best care for it.  Check back often for information on special events and how to get involved.

Butterfly Day 5K and Native Plant Sale, July 1st, 9AM - 12PM

Get active this July 4th weekend by participating in the 2017 Au Sable Butterfly Day 5k Run/Walk around Big Twin Lake! The race starts at 9:00 AM on Saturday, July 1st. Proceeds from the 5k run/walk benefit Au Sable's Environmental Education Program, which educates over 2,000 students from Grand Traverse Bay area schools each year at their Environmental Learning Center on Big Twin Lake.

The Run/Walk route takes participants around beautiful Big Twin Lake, beginning at Blue Lake Township Hall (10599 Twin Lake Rd, Mancelona, Michigan) and ending at Au Sable Institute of Environmental Studies (7526 Sunset Trail NE, Mancelona, MI). All registered participants for the race receive a native perennial wildflower from Designs by Nature. Awards will also be given for overall winners and 1st and 2nd age group.  All runners 10 and under recieve medals.

$15 (Preregister), $20 (Day of). Race day registration starting at 7:45 AM at Blue Lake Township Hall.

Following the race, we invite you to stick around for:

10:00 am - 12:00 pm Native Plant Sale, Crafts, Face Painting, and Butterfly Hunting
