Work-bee Wednesdays 9-11am (summer only)

Join others to perform various tasks on the institute grounds from trimming trails to  special event preparation.  Tasks will be ongoing throughout the summer and will include inside and outside work.   Please make us aware of any special skills that may be particularly relevant.  All tools and materials will be provided.  Each work-bee will meet at the ELC unless otherwise noted.

Garden Keeper

Au Sable maintains a native plant garden and butterfly house.  If you are interested in donating 1-3 hours of your time a week we would love to have your help maintaining the garden.  General weeding, staking, and watering are all we ask!

Grounds Keeper

Do you like to work with your hands?  Do you have a trade skill or are you interested in construction or building repair?  We are always looking for people to help us with grounds and special project work.  Tasks vary from trail maintenance and pruning, to repair work on buildings and facilities and other special projects as needed.

Volunteer School Program Instructor (VSPI)

Each year more than 2000 students participate in our field-based environmental education programs.  Very often we are looking for teaching assistance to keep student group sizes small.  If you have experience in the sciences, teaching, or just love getting outside and helping others experience nature, then you might consider becoming a volunteer school program instructor.  VSPIs will attend a trainings to cover base curriculum and teaching strategies.  A background check is mandatory.  Once you have completed training you will be called (as needed) to help lead small groups of students (8-12) during their field trips to Au Sable.

Adhoc Instructor/Special Skills Instructor

Do you have a special talent/knowledge that you would like to share with others?  Consider leading a class at Au Sable.  We will promote your event and provide you with logistical, materials, and programmatic support as needed.  Arts and crafts, storytelling, history, science, etc.  We believe in life-long learning and would be happy to learn from you!
