Preliminary surveys of the biota were made during the summer of 1999
on Smith Prairie, Central Whidbey Island, Washington. The following is
a list of avian species identified on the site. These lists must be considered
tentative and a work in progress.

1. The only place on Whidbey that this falcon is routinely seen. It is
suspected to nest here.
2. Nest identified on east side of property 100 meters from trail off
Morris Rd entrance. Fledgling 6/13/99.
3. Fledgling seen on 5/27/99 (GP) and several times thereafter by a variety
of observers, in the woodlot on the north end of property.
4. Nest in 35 foot snag, parents seen bringing insects, north woodlot.
5. Nest with young in salal covered stump nursing a deciduous tree, forest
edge northeast corner.

nest building, seen entering nest, carrying nest building materials, etc.
