Biography/Interests

John is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is married to Mary Foxwell Loeks and has three children: Kristin, Emily, and J.D.

John Loeks is the organizer and leader of entertainment enterprises. His principal business interests include Celebration! Cinema and ShowSpan Inc.

John owns and operates ten motion picture theaters in West and Central Michigan including Studio 28 in Grand Rapids, Cinema Carousel in Norton Shores, and Celebration! Cinemas in Lansing, Benton Township, Mt. Pleasant, Grand Rapids and Portage.

ShowSpan Inc. produces fifteen large consumer shows in Michigan and Wisconsin. These include the Grand Center Boat Show, West Michigan Home & Garden Show, Michigan International Auto Show and the Milwaukee Boat Show.

He also does real estate development, and practiced law in Grand Rapids prior to 1990.

John has been associated with AuSable since 1975 when he served as legal counsel to AuSable Trails Camp for Youth.  He suggested the transformation to an educational organization; and drafted the new by-laws for the AuSable Institute.  He was elected to the Board in 1980 and has served as Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Secretary.
